The ribbon-belt biofilter is a three-dimensional elastic biological carrier designed and manufactured by our company for biological membrane wastewater treatment processes. Featuring a specialized woven structure, this product provides microorganisms with an extensive specific surface area for attachment and growth, while creating optimal mass transfer and flow conditions. These characteristics significantly enhance the stability and efficiency of biological treatment systems, making it particularly suitable for processes such as contact oxidation and biofilters.

  1. Core structural composition

The filler is a continuous, three-dimensional network of suspended units, with the core structure comprising:

  • Braid strip body: Composed of multiple polyolefin (e.g., PP, PE) plastic strips formed by special drawing, interwoven and coiled like braids to create a continuous, loose, porous three-dimensional network structure. This serves as the primary region for microbial attachment and growth.
  • Center reinforcement rope: Typically runs through the center of the braided strap, made of corrosion-resistant synthetic fiber or plastic rope, primarily serving to bear weight and reinforce during vertical suspension, preventing excessive elongation or deformation of the filler under prolonged use.
  • Mounting hook: Located at the top of the packing, it secures the upper end of a single packing strip to the support or beam above the tank, while the lower end remains freely suspended in the water.
  1. Working Principle and Core Features
  • The large specific surface area and three-dimensional structure: The woven network pores can support biofilm attachment on both inner and outer surfaces, resulting in a theoretically high specific surface area. Their three-dimensional spatial structure facilitates comprehensive three-phase contact (air-water-biofilm) and may reduce clogging.
  • Uniform growth across the entire surface and natural renewal: Microorganisms can adhere uniformly to both the inner and outer surfaces of the braided strips. Under the influence of water flow and airflow, the filler material undergoes gentle oscillation, facilitating the natural detachment of aged biofilm while maintaining its viability, thus simplifying management.
  • Easy installation and strong adaptability: The modular design allows only the upper end to be fixed during installation, while the lower end remains freely suspended, eliminating the need for complex assembly. It can be flexibly arranged according to the shape of the pool, demonstrating strong adaptability to various pool configurations.
  • Durability and chemical stability: The primary material is corrosion-resistant engineering plastic, which exhibits stable chemical properties in typical wastewater environments and offers a long theoretical service life.

This filler is primarily used in water treatment processes requiring the cultivation of attached biofilms, commonly found in:

  • Municipal wastewater treatment: The biological carriers in contact oxidation tanks and bioaffinity filters (BAF) of domestic sewage treatment plants, or as enhancement fillers for conventional activated sludge processes.
  • Industrial wastewater treatment: biochemical treatment units for organic wastewater in industries such as food, brewing, pharmaceuticals, dyeing, and petrochemicals.
  • Micro-pollution water treatment: purification projects for water bodies such as rivers and lakes, as well as reclaimed water reuse systems.
  • Aquaculture water treatment: As the core filter medium of biofilters, it is used to remove harmful substances such as ammonia nitrogen.
