The double peripheral drive sludge scraper is a core sludge discharge equipment designed and manufactured by our company, mainly used in circular radial flow sedimentation tanks of large-scale urban sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, and industrial wastewater treatment projects.

The equipment features a symmetrical dual-periphery drive configuration. Drive units mounted at the pool's top drive two parallel long scraper arms to rotate slowly around the center, continuously and steadily collecting sludge from the bottom into a central collection hopper for centralized discharge. The rotating arms are equipped with integrated sludge scrapers that simultaneously remove surface floating debris, achieving dual functionality. With its smooth operation, high sludge scraping efficiency, and suitability for large-diameter tanks, this model serves as an ideal solution for medium-to-large circular sedimentation tanks.

  • Structure and Working Principle
  1. Core structural composition

The whole system is a symmetrical steel rotary frame, which is mainly composed of the following parts:

  • The working bridge and end beam: The steel structure working bridge spanning the center of the pool is the main load-bearing component of the equipment. Its two ends are connected to the walking drive device through end beams, allowing rotation around the pool's central axis.
  • Symmetrical peripheral drive system: Two identical drive units symmetrically mounted on the end beams of the working bridge. Each unit typically comprises a vertical motor, cycloidal pinion or gear reducer, and fully sealed walking wheels. The dual-drive design ensures synchronized and smooth operation.
  • Grass and slag scraping system:
  • The scraper arm and scraper: from the bottom of the working bridge to the two sides of the pool wall, the symmetrical long scraper arm is extended, the arm is equipped with the segmented scraper, the angle of which is designed to effectively push the sludge from the periphery to the center of the collection hopper.
  • Scraping scraper (optional): Installed at the front end of the working bridge or scraper arm, it rotates with the equipment to collect floating scum from the pool surface and transfer it to the discharge hopper at the pool edge.
    • The central rotary bearing, positioned at the geometric center of the pool, serves as the pivot point for the working bridge's rotation. It contains a collector ring (for power-supplying models) to transmit electricity and signals.
    • Safety protection system: including overload protection, audio-visual alarm, and walking wheel slip monitoring, ensuring safe operation of equipment under harsh working conditions.
    • Electrical control system: Equipped with a PLC control cabinet to enable automated operation, remote monitoring, and seamless integration with upstream and downstream processes.
  1. Working Principle

After the device is started, the two sets of peripheral drive devices act synchronously, driving the working bridge and its lower symmetrical mud scraping system to make low-speed, continuous circular motion around the center axis of the pool.

The settled sludge at the pool bottom accumulates under gravity. Rotating scraper blades gently sweep the sludge along the sloping bottom (typically with a slope of ≥5%) toward the central collection hopper. Under hydrostatic pressure, the sludge is discharged through the sludge discharge pipe. Simultaneously, scum on the water surface is pushed toward the pool edge by the scum scraper and flows into the scum discharge trough. The clarified water then evenly overflows from the perimeter weir.

  3. High structural load-bearing capacity: The working bridge, as a rigid beam structure, can effectively support the weight and resistance of the mud scraping system, ensuring overall structural stability.
  4. Maintenance is relatively convenient: The main drive components (motor, reducer, and walking wheels) are all mounted on the end beams at the pool's top, positioned in a water environment, making routine inspections, lubrication, and maintenance tasks more manageable.
  5. Suitable for large-scale tank requirements: This is one of the practical solutions for large and medium-sized wastewater treatment plants to address sludge discharge issues in large circular sedimentation tanks (such as secondary and primary sedimentation tanks), with mature technology.
