The sand suction machine for sedimentation tanks is an eco-friendly equipment designed and manufactured by our company, specifically for sand discharge operations in horizontal-flow, aeration, or cyclone sedimentation tanks. Primarily used in the pretreatment phase of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, this equipment mechanically removes and transports heavy inorganic impurities such as sand particles settled at the tank bottom. This process maintains the effective volume and functionality of sedimentation tanks while reducing wear and blockage risks in subsequent treatment processes.

  • Structure and Working Principle
  1. Core structural composition

Based on the drive and walking mechanism, they can be categorized into the following common types:

  • The walking-type sand suction machine is a mobile working bridge which can walk along the track on the top of the pool.
  • Walking mechanism: the driving wheel and the driven wheel at both ends of the working bridge drive the whole machine to move.
  • Sand suction system: Suspended beneath the working bridge, the core component is a submersible pump or air lift device. It operates through sand suction pipes (or nozzles) inserted into the pool bottom for extraction.
  • Sand discharge pipeline: Convey the extracted sand-water mixture to the sediment collection trough at the pool edge or to subsequent separation equipment.
    • The cyclone sand suction machine is typically paired with a cyclone sand settler, usually installed in a fixed or semi-fixed configuration.
  • Sand lifting device: Typically employs sand pumps or air-lift systems, installed at the base of the conical hopper in the sedimentation tank to lift and discharge the deposited sand particles.
  1. Working Principle

The equipment operates automatically according to the preset program. For example, consider the common traveling pump suction type:

  1. Walking and positioning: The sand suction machine starts from the end of the pool and moves uniformly along the track to the other end.
  2. Synchronous sand suction: During operation, the submersible pump activates to continuously or intermittently extract sediment layers from the pool bottom via the suction pipe.
  3. Sand-water conveyance: The extracted sand-water mixture is transported through pipelines to the sand collection trough beside the pool.
  4. Cyclic operation: Upon reaching the end of the trip, the equipment can return to the starting point or initiate the next cycle, enabling automated sand discharge.
