Sodium hypochlorite generator

  • Detailed Description
  • Product Overview

The sodium hypochlorite generator is a system designed and manufactured by our company, which produces sodium hypochlorite disinfectant solution on-site through electrolysis of diluted saline solution. This product directly converts sodium chloride and water into effective chlorine via electrochemical methods, aiming to provide a disinfectant preparation solution for water treatment processes such as disinfection, sterilization, algaecide, and oxidation. It offers on-site preparation, relatively high safety, and convenient operation and management, serving as one of the common alternative technologies for chlorine-based disinfection.

  • Structure and Working Principle
  1. Core structural composition

The system typically adopts a skid-mounted modular design, primarily comprising the following core units:

  • Electrolysis system (core): Composed of electrolysis power supply, electrolytic electrodes, and electrolytic cell. The electrodes typically use titanium substrates coated with special catalytic coatings (stabilized anode DSA). The design of the electrolytic cell affects electrolysis efficiency and lifespan.
  • The salt solution and saline preparation system comprises a salt solution tank, filtration unit, dosing device, and precision metering pump, designed for preparing and delivering diluted saline solution at specified concentrations.
  • Rectifier and control cabinet: Provides stable DC power for electrolysis, with integrated PLC or smart controller to enable automatic control of the entire preparation process, concentration adjustment, data recording, and safety interlock.
  • Storage and dosing system (optional): includes sodium hypochlorite storage tanks and dosing pumps, used for temporary storage of the final solution and precise dosing at the application point.
  1. Working Principle

The system operates on a membrane-free electrolysis technology, with the core reaction occurring within the electrolytic cell.

  1. Preparation of saline solution: Dissolve industrial-grade table salt (NaCl) in softened water or tap water, then filter and adjust to a low-concentration saline solution (typically with a concentration range of 2.5%-3.5%).
  2. Electrolysis process: The prepared dilute saline solution is quantitatively fed into the electrolytic cell. Under the influence of direct current, an electrochemical reaction occurs, with the main product being sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution. The overall reaction equation can be simplified as: NaCl + H₂O + electrical energy → NaClO + H₂↑.
  3. Product Collection and Addition: The generated sodium hypochlorite solution (typically with an effective chlorine concentration of 0.6%-1.0%) is transferred to the finished product storage tank and subsequently dosed into the water body to be disinfected via metering pumps.
  • Core technical features
  1. On-site preparation ensures safety: It enables immediate production and use of disinfectants, eliminating transportation and storage risks associated with hazardous chemicals such as liquid chlorine. Additionally, it reduces the degradation of available chlorine in commercial sodium hypochlorite solutions and minimizes storage-related issues.
  2. The raw materials are readily available, and the operating costs are relatively controllable: the primary raw materials are table salt and water, which are easily procured. The operating costs mainly consist of electricity consumption and salt consumption, and can be economically evaluated based on local electricity prices.
  3. Disinfection efficacy and environmental friendliness: The mechanism of sodium hypochlorite disinfection is similar to that of liquid chlorine, ensuring reliable disinfection effects. The preparation and usage process pose relatively low risks of generating by-products such as organochlorine compounds (e.g., trihalomethanes), demonstrating superior environmental friendliness.
  4. Fully automated operation: The system automatically adjusts chlorine production based on water flow or residual chlorine signals, enabling on-demand preparation and precise dosing with high automation and user-friendly operation.
  5. Durability of key components: The device's anode is made of ruthenium-plated titanium, while the cathode plate is constructed from pure titanium. Under suitable water quality and operating conditions, the electrodes exhibit relatively long service life.
